Three go off to the lighthouse

Up early and in the kitchen packing a picnic and skipping breakfast as we were getting ready for a day out,the weatherman had forecast light winds, sunshine and lovely temperatures for the day and the three of us would be off to the lighthouse.

After a lovely drive through the countryside we pulled into the car park and there she stood in all her glory,i love light houses and would love to live in one, take that big light bulb out of the top and i could have a sewing room with sea views....

Imagine that.....high in the air like a bird with nothing but your thoughts and a needle,it would be lovely to pop out for some fresh air and take a stroll around the top with a nice cup of tea...a few pots out there filled with flowers and a small wicker chair.....could be nice don't you think? :) ..

The light house doesn't have time for sewing rooms and romantic notions as she is too busy looking after all the boats that pass by this beautiful rocky coastline...

Lots of rocks and huge white cliffs that gleam in the September sun and lovely rolling grass hills that make you want to run with your arms high in the air singing 'the hills are alive'...ahhh the air is so fresh here....

We stood gazing and chatting a while when Steve spotted something in the distance,do you see?

Closer...ahhh good chap the perfect spot for our picnic!

I was faffing around with Beatrix when all of a sudden she barked! i looked up and could just see Steve in the distance making off with the picnic basket...

Beatrix suggested we take a short cut through the long grass but what good is a bench with no picnic?

By the time we arrived at the bench a little out of puff all was well and Steve was sat waiting admiring the view...

The sun was so bright that it bleached the landscape or is it seascape?
The three of us sat watching the sea and listening to the gulls flying over head as the sun warmed our backs...

A little someone gets really excited when the picnic basket is opened and she likes to try a little of everything mum and dad are having..Such a happy little friend is Beatrix..

All the benches have dedications to loved ones who are no longer with us,we always say their name and thank them for our rest....

I raised my pink picnic glass full of sparkling water and thanked our lord for all this natural beauty, the sights and sounds and for my two loves sat next to me..

When i pray i never ask him for fancy cars and luxury holidays,i always ask to just be happy and he has given me Steve and Beatrix and popped me by the sea where he knew i would smile often and i am grateful every day....

Oh look i am rambling on and Beatrix is waiting for us to go exploring....I'm coming!

Off we toddled  along the meadow as the lighthouse who was getting smaller in size seemed to be keeping an eye on the three of us....

Still watching as we disappeared over a hill and onto the cliff tops...

It was so warm walking along that it could have been a summer's day in June....

The little soil track was terribly bumpy and we tripped and laughed a few times so my camera is a bit shaky as i didn't want to fall but i thought you might like to enjoy the day too..

Press play below to join us on the cliff top....

We stopped and talked to the girls for a while and caught our breath...

As we sauntered back to the car the lighthouse came into view or had she peeked over the hill the whole time?...

Back at Shingle Cottage eight tired legs walked up the garden path and i turned the key in the door, lovely to be home after an adventure...

Beatrix headed straight for her spot on the back of dads couch...

I made a nice cup of tea in the kitchen and Steve took off his boots...

I picked up my tea tray and hurried through to the front room with a farmhouse cake and snuggled up on the couch and started chatting about the day and where we going tommorow...

I hope your all well and we will see you soon on the station platform....

Won't you join me next time for more tales and goings on from Shingle Cottage...

  1. What a beautiful day you had. It is always nice to get away from home for a few hours to just enjoy life. I, too, like those simple little things in life that bring peace and thankfulness. Thank you for sharing becasue I got my day off to a good start with a brisk walk along the coast of a far away land that while I'd love to visit probably won't. Do you ever think of yourself living in a far away land? Have a wonderful week end.

  2. It sounds like a perfectly lovely day! The picture of the cliffs made me think of one of my favorite shows ~ Doc Martin. An area I have on my bucket list and would love to visit some day.

  4. Oh, I felt as if I were right there walking beside you - such a lovely way to spend the day. Beatrix definitely enjoyed her walk, but seems to really enjoy her spot on the sofa!! Your seaside is absolutely beautiful.

  6. Lovely walk today. Attended a funeral for a friend of ours. He was a local physician who had served so often in the community. Believe it or not it was a joyous and poignant time. So many lovely and funny stories, he was an avid fisherman, lots of fish tales! His grand children sang two little songs and so many wonderful tributes, must have been at least three hundred or more people there. Will be asking his wife to attend one of our woodland walks soon. Have to go to work tomorrow, but will be wondering what adventures will be on your plate! Have a wonderful Sunday!
