Autumn Colours

The last few weeks have brought the cold winds and along with them came the dark early nights..... Autumn has arrived and has cast her spell across our gardens sending them in to a deep sleep, there are still the odd posy of flowers or two to be picked but a cold snap forecast for mid week will finally turn out the lights until spring arrives.

All is cosy and warm inside our little cottage by the sea,the coal shed is full to the top with coal and logs, the Christmas cake ingredients are waiting in the kitchen to be baked into cakes that will be soaked with sherry week by week leading up to Christmas....

We have been out today clearing the gardens and hoeing the borders and sweeping up the leaves, making everything tidy while it's not too cold outside....

Out in the hedgerows rose hips shine deep red and glossy like tiny baubles shining against the cool blue skies...a lovely time for walking and taking in Gods beauty...

Outside our windows the blackbirds feast on the glut of berries and reward us with a pretty song,i am filling the bird table daily now with mix seed and have many feathered friends visiting, robins, wood pigeons, sparrows, bluetits, wrens to name a few...They are fattening up nicely ready to keep them from the cold...

I have been lighting candles around our cottage at dusk now the dark nights are here and tonight all the clocks will be turned back an hour as we burrow deeper toward winter...

The fire has been flickering and cracking as it glows into the early hours....

In a few days little ones will be trick or treating and soon it will be bonfire night,i do love fireworks but shall have to watch from the window as Beatrix is scared of the loud bangs...

I hope you are enjoying the season and all it's rich colours and that you are having a lovely weekend what ever you may be up to..

Will you join me next time for more tales and goings on from Shingle Cottage...
