The Week Before Christmas

Up early just as the sun began to shine and out  into the car, little Beatrix peeping in the wing mirror as the heater blew out warm air as we drove out of our little town.... off we go.....

The sun didn't shine for long and freezing mist clung to icy fields as we hurried by....

Past Christmas trees...

With Beatrix on my knee wrapped in blankets...

And a van in front saying Potter, that made me smile...

Past a village pond with a wonderful cross....

And passing village pubs....

To hand deliver Christmas cards and presents to our waiting Mothers...

We stayed a few days and I cuddled and cuddled my Mum's dog, he has just had an operation and thankfully he is ok but a little wobbly after the anaesthetic and he is fourteen, so lots of love for this sweet boy...

Mum went shopping with Steve and came home with bags of sweets and crisps and we switched on the lamps as night fell and watched Miss Potter, one of my favourite bits is when a young Beatrix watches her parents go out for the evening and outside awaits a pumpkin and six bunnies with little mice as foot men....

After a lovely few days and taking flowers to the cemetery for our loved ones that are no longer with us we were back on the road, back through the little villages with wreaths on their doors..

And past hedgerows with dark silhouettes of trees covered in birds  against the winter skies....

Home to our cottage by the sea were logs had been delivered and the coal man had filled the coal shed too... come on Steve only another twenty wheel barrows full :)

Stacked  by the fireside to  warm fingers and toes...

Candles are burning brightly....

The larder is full and our feathered friends in the garden are stocked up too...

Santa on cereal, a cheery start to the day!..... Ho Ho Ho!..

Steve surprised me with a potted  blue spruce Christmas tree that we are hoping to grow in the garden in the New Year..

The kitchen is toasty with the oven warming as I roll Mum's ginger cookie dough, Mum made these every Christmas and I made a batch this year that I took home for her....

From little balls of dough to chewy ginger cookies, yum!..

I made sure I picked up the Christmas edition on Down Your Way, such lovely old stories from our beloved Yorkshire....

I also popped into the bakery for a little Christmas log to enjoy with a nice cup of tea....well it is Christmas after all.. I shall tell you about the vintage baubles next time..

Well I best go as I have a few more presents to wrap and tomorrow it's Christmas Eve!

Are you all ready? I hope you are enjoying the run up to the big day!

Will you join me next time for more tales and goings on from Shingle Cottage?...

xXx
